St Kilda – Kitchen / Bathroom

Our lovely clients reached out to us for an upgrade to the kitchen and bathroom in their gorgeous Art-Deco St apartment, located in bayside St Kilda. In keeping with the gorgeous heritage of the building, we chose some rich colours and brushed brass fixtures to pay homage to the era.

Complete demo of the kitchen uncovered an unstable dividing wall to the bathroom. Battening out the dividing wall between both rooms resolved the issue with extra support before re-plastering. Utilising the small area, and to create more bench space we installed integrated equipment and included a brekky bar / bench. Aged pipes and the flue system were all upgraded as required with new integrated dishwasher and slight change of location of the sink, improved a more functional kitchen space.

The bathroom was found to be sitting on an uneven slab which required re-levelling and complete strip out. The waste point also required redirection. The dividing wall would be holding a lot of weight with tiles reaching 2100mm x almost 4m so this was a good decision in the end to mirror the kitchen side with new battens, re-plaster and waterproof, even if it delayed the process. Our clients were fond of a warm bath in those cold Melbourne winters, so installing shower over bath was a great choice. Again trying to reserve as much space as possible, we installed a sliding door to replace the swing door and new joinery to create more storage but also to hide the washing machine.

Carrying the rich green colour through from the kitchen into the bathroom, we suggested to play with shades and tile shapes. A kitkat mosaic splashback and subway tile as feature wall, work well with the brushed brass fixtures and didnt take over the room. Complimented by a glamourous mirror and lighting sitting over the most gorgeous basin ever, have us so envious of this beautiful apartment!
